Originally built in the late 1800s by renowned local builders G.H. Pattinson, this Victorian detached house enjoys an elevated position overlooking Lake Windermere. We were appointed to lead the decorative interior renovation, with the aim of transforming the property into a sophisticated, family-friendly holiday home that respects its heritage while offering a refined, contemporary experience.
Our design approach focused on celebrating the existing architecture — high ceilings, detailed mouldings, and original timberwork — using these features as a foundation for a layered, modern scheme. Working within the original layout, we introduced a calm, tonal palette and a blend of natural materials and textures to bring warmth, depth and cohesion throughout.
Particular attention was given to balancing old and new: traditional detailing is paired with clean-lined joinery, sculptural lighting, and carefully selected furnishings to create a sense of understated elegance. The result is a timeless, characterful home that feels both considered and comfortable — a true retreat, rooted in its surroundings yet relevant for today.
